A Calgary Police Service press release states the semi-truck and trailer was stationary in the right lane when the motorcyclist, operating a green 2011 Kawasaki EX400 motorcycle, collided with the trailer from behind.
The 20-year-old driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, while the driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the collision, the release states. Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors.
“Our Traffic Section continues to investigate this collision,” CPS stated, adding anyone with dashcam footage, or who has information about the incident, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
